Analysis of NME magazine front cover

This front cover shows that this is aimed mainly at 25 year olds, but this magazines targeted audience can be between the ages of 16-35. They have used many colours in this issue and all colours that are related to Christmas, which helps us notice that it’s a Christmas issue. It has not used too many colours to make this front cover look over crowded with images and colours. The colours that have been used are bold and make this front cover stand out from others. It has a bold colour (red) for the title and anything that is important to some buyer’s e.g. and free items within this issue, anything that they can win or like any gigs that are coming up. There are many items and colours that indicate that this is a Christmas issue e.g. the outfits worn by the Arctic Monkeys, the colours of the outfits (they look like elves) the colours of the title and the snow that is shown to have landed on top of the title. The colours of this magazine help our eyes explore the frame a bit more. The background of this image shows that is Christmas time as well as there is snow and Santa’s sleigh flying. The use of colours makes this magazine stand out from others as it will draw more people in. the angle of the image almost seems at a low angle as the Arctic Monkeys is looking down at the camera. The objects they are carrying and the make up on their faces makes this Christmas theme seem odd. Normally you would get little elves, without the hammers in their hands and with a nicer expression on their face. The hammer’s and the expression on their face suggest that they are ‘evil’ elves. It has fairly large font size but they have made Christmas, Arctic Monkeys and NME larger than the other writing. The title is large so it shows that this magazine is the NME magazine, the Arctic Monkeys are in a large font as this shows who the main attraction in this issue is. And Christmas is in large font to suggest that this magazine has something to do with Christmas. You can see that this magazine is aimed at a more male audience which would be in lower middle class and skilled middle class.
